Caitlin Collins, MD, MPH Receives Excellence in Research Award from American College of Surgeons

Caitlin Collins, MD, MPH, a general surgery resident at UCSF, received an Excellence in Research Award from the Scientific Forum Committee of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) in the category of Colon and Rectal Surgery.

The award was for her abstract, "Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Bundled Payment for Care Improvement- Advanced for Major Bowel Surgery: Do We Have the Tools We Need to Succeed?", which was also selected as an oral presentation at the 2019 Owen H. Wangensteen Scientific Forum program. Dr. Collins received her honor at a formal awards ceremony on October 29th. 

Dr. Collins received her medical degree from Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA and her MPH from UC Berkeley. She is currently a Resident Research Fellow at UCSF. Her research interests include quality improvement and process improvement within surgery, health equity and barriers to surgery, and medical student education. 

Over the course of her training, Dr. Collins has benefited from the excellent mentorship of Dr. Liza Wick, Dr. Catherine Juillard, and Dr. Alain Chichom-Mefire. Over the past two years, her research focus has been on alternative payment models, health equity, and quality improvement within surgical populations.
